ContributeAbout Saherla Osman
Saherla Osman is a lifelong resident of Ward 6 with deep roots in the local community. She attended local schools and has family members who currently attend schools in the community. Her personal connection to Ward 6 has given her a strong understanding of the importance of neighbourhood schools and the role they play in the lives of students, families, and the broader community.
Saherla is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Service Navigator, supporting children and youth with disabilities and their families, including individuals and families navigating services related to Autism Spectrum Disorder. Through this work, she has seen firsthand the challenges families face when trying to access appropriate supports, navigate complex systems, and ensure their children receive the resources they need to thrive.
Saherla is a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology candidate and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Psychology and an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in Autism and Behavioural Science. Her professional and educational background has strengthened her commitment to advocacy, accessibility, mental health, student well-being, and ensuring people can access the supports they need.
Her commitment to young people also extends beyond her professional work. Saherla previously served on the York South–Weston Youth Council under the office of the MPP, where she had the opportunity to listen to young people, understand the issues affecting the community, and contribute to conversations about how to better support youth.
Saherla brings a perspective grounded in service, advocacy, and community. She is a strong, driven, and focused thinker who believes in listening carefully, asking difficult questions, examining the evidence, and working collaboratively toward practical solutions.
She believes schools must do more than educate. They must be places where students belong, feel safe, and have access to the right supports at the right time.
